This module aims to develop awareness of local and global environmental issues and concerns. You will also learned the relationship between the local context of climate and building practices. More importantly, you will know the different approaches to a sustainable architecture. There are many things that are harming our world right now which everyone needs to take action and do something about it. Some of the things are: Water waste, air pollution, noise pollution, waste, deforestation and more. We explored more about these topics through lectures and projects.
Project 1 - Green To Go Video Project
There are many environmental concern now that will affect earth and us badly. The Green to GO project is a project aimed to encourage us to use our talent in video taking, video editing, etc. to raise awareness of contemporary environmental and social issues. This project however requires us to explore the outside world and take videos of real life situation. We first have to do research so that we know what direction we are heading to and what videos to record. It basically help enchance our creativity by producing a short film. The short film is expected to have IMPACTFUL information, data and graphic/visuals etc. This project is a group project so I worked with : Nur Farahiyah, Natasya Jasmin, Salehah, Zainab and Wajeeha. The topic that we chose for our short film is : Food Waste. Our main concern is how everyone is wasting so much food and they have no idea that 1/3 of the world is suffering from FAMINE. They also have no idea that wasting food is harming our planet and that it will soon be running out. So we decide to let everyone know about it through this short film.
"THINK TWICE" - FOOD WASTE VIDEO
REFLECTION.
This project was very challenging for us at first. We kept changing story boards so many times that our work progress became very slow. Even though we did a lot of work, we were producing nothing but really low marks video. Every time we go to tutorial to show our progress, we would get comments like “ this would be a fail”, “ you need to put a whole lot more effort in it”. But these comments is what made us really motivated to work really really hard. We went all out and go to so many different places in Malaysia to get the right footage for the video. We went to so many food courts in KLCC, Sunway Pyramid, Aeon, and even restaurants and bakeries. We even went to Chow Kit, just to find the food waste that is impactful enough to make everyone go speechless. And so we wasted no time and worked really hard for the grade that we want. Even though it was for a project, I treated it as a site visit where I get to also play around with my group members and have fun with them. We treated every trip like a normal trip and make sure that everyone is having fun. I had no problems in going to places because I really love travelling and taking photos and learning new stuff.
Other than that, I got to enhance my creativity skills and video taking and editing skills. I was part of the videographer crew and I had so much fun with it. Even though I was only taking videos with my phone, I was imagining like I was a real videographer where I am filming for a movie. I researched a lot in how to take a good video and what kind of transitions is good to make people go “WOW”. But what I am more proud of myself is my editing skills. I have improved so much since last year. I was in charge of editing all these videos that we all had recorded, choose the right videos and making the short film. My group members had helped me a lot in picking the music, giving me the online videos of famine and choosing the appropriate videos to use for our videos. Without them, I would not have someone to check if our video is impactful or not. Basically they are my judges for the time being. Editing the video was challenging as I expected. I had experience from my foundation years but this project expected way more from that. The short film has to be very professional and IMPACTFUL. Everything has to be perfect from the introduction, the music, the transition, the texts, and to the credits. And so I did my 200% best on editing this video so that everyone can feel emotions from it and learn from it.
Basically, I was really proud of my group and myself in this project. I think that this semester had really improved me a lot, especially in video editing skills. I can’t thank my friends enough for all their help during my stress times trying to get the right transitions and music in the video. Thank you guys! And of course, our lovely tutor, Ms. Salvi. Without her honest comments and pressure on us, we would not be able to put that 200% effort in. Ms. Salvi literally got our act together and decided to do the work in full speed with a lot of energy. Thank you Ms. Salvi <3
It was really such an amazing opportunity doing this project. I had lots of fun and can’t wait to improve more of skills in the future hopefully.
