Architecture Culture and History 1 teaches us about the chronological survey of the developments of Western architecture from the beginning of time to the period of Enlightenment, with consideration of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors which have influenced the design of buildings. These issues are explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents.
Project 1
This project breaks down into three part: online discussion forum, sketch journal and an A2 analysis board. The project is about a case study that we have to do on a building. The building that I got was "Fraunkirche Dresden", a Baroque architecture in Germany.
Part A ( Wiki TImes Online Discussion Forum).
For the first part of the project, our task is to do a research on our building, Frauenkirche Dresden. This first task is combine with 3 other people but each of us get our own individual question to research about and answer. In the end, we are all suppose to read the others research and study from it. All of our research will then go the online forum in Times. The question I got was question number 3:
i. What is the form, or shape of the building?
ii. How the form or shape of the building contributes in making the building historically significant and meaningful?

ONLINE DISCUSSION FORUM.
Reflection.
I learned that research is really important step to understanding a particular building or anything basically. And doing the research in the right way and reading the right thing and able to understand it is another step. If you dont understand what you have read, then what is the point of it. So I learned that whenever i come across something about my case study, I make sure to read it properly and read more about it at another source. I learned that good research does not take one day. It takes a couple of days and maybe weeks just to understand what you are studying. Reading books is much better than going online because books usually have all the information that you need and also it has more credibility. I actually learned alot about this building and I found this building a whole lot more interesting. Before I didnt know a single thing about my building so learning about something new was really fun.
Part B (Precedent Study and Analysis Sketch Journal).
For this part of the project, all the research that we had done will now translate into a sketch journal.
Things that we need to include in the journal is:
1. Illustrative architectural historical timeline in chronology order that highlights and explains the standing of the building in architectural history.
2. With reference to the timeline generates comparative analyses of the case study with the before and after architectural style.
3. With reference to the timeline explain the technology development and advancement related to the case study.
So all the information that we have acquired would then turn into sketches and an analysis of 500 words along the way.

SKETCH JOURNAL.
Reflection.
For this part of the project, I learned that my sketch need to be improve. I still lack skills in sketching and I need to improve a whole lot more in the future. I also learned that to be able to do well for this project, I think that if I had practice my sketch before hand AND laying out all the information in place, I would have a more organize work. Even though my sketches are still weak, I am actually happy that I had all the content that is needed. I know very well that I am actually good at doing research and getting the contents that I need. The only problem that I had so far was how to organize it and what types of sketches or diagrams do I show. That is exactly when I start to waste my time figuring out what to draw and not doing any work. So I learned that now I want to practice my sketches and always plan out early on what to draw and what to write on the paper.
Part C (Analysis Presentation Board).
For this last part, we were required to make an A2 board analysising our building again base on some certain questions. We all had to answer question A and put it in the board. But for question B, we all get different questions. And I got question number 2. So we have to include illustrations, diagrams, sketches, drawings and etc to present our informations.
The questions:
A. Answers to the Precedent Study Analysis questions below:
1. How does the building reflect the spirit of the time and place for which it was built?
2. What are the initial ideas and the design concept?
3. How the initial ideas and the design concept affecting the architecture?
B.
2. Building massing analysis (i. Material and Structure- geometry of making, ii. Geometry - alignment/anthropometry/social geometry/ideal geometry)

MY A2 ANALYSIS BOARD.
Reflection.
This project had really improve my sketching skills. I learned from my previous project that I have to improve my sketching AND my organization in content. And so I had planned out ahead on where to put my information on butter paper and showed that to my tutor. After my tutor gave some feedbacks and good advices, I edit my layout and went ahead with the drawings. I decided to make it monochrome and really enhance the drawings rather than the background. I learned from the past that putting colors with no purpose really ruins the work. And so for this project, I learned that making the boards look simple, like with a simple background really enhance my drawings and contents. I learned how to render my drawings and I was so proud of the outcome. BUT I do need to fix my writting fonts because it still does not look consistent and neat. It has some letters crooked and slanted and it annoys me sometime looking at it because its just not perfectly straight and even. For the future, I will learn how to write fonts more consistent and neater. But so far, I think that this project really made me think that this building had impact my life. This is the first case study that I have done and I had a whole lot of fun with it!
