Project 1 (Group Work)
This project required us to look for a building that is in Asia and relate to one of the topics given. And the topic that we chose was contextual architecture. From there, we have to create a research title and research questions. The project breaks into three parts:
1. The Topic Proposal
2. Poster
3. Presentation

Reflection
This project was a long project that made me learn a lot of new things and increase my skills. It has been a long time since I have done something similar to a research project and this project was something like that but in a poster and presentation format. We had to create research questions and research title and it was not easy to get it approved by the tutor, but this is what makes me not give up. This challenge of creating something that will make sense and something that is clear to others is not easy as it looks like. I thought that it would be an easy task especially since I was working in a group but it was much harder. It wasn't easy to communicate with everyone and was not easy to get everyone on the same page. In order to solve that problem, we have to meet and discuss on the different titles and questions that everyone might have and pick the ones that we all agree to be suitable. And it really worked and we started to improve our work as we come to tutorial every week.
Tutorial is another important thing that I learned to be very critical. This project needs to have someone to check and guide us since we ourselves don't know if what we are doing is right or wrong. So having Mr Jing Hao as our tutor was so helpful because he really appreciates the effort that we put in. There will be things that he will tell us to go and redo and he will make us find it ourselves. Rather than giving out the answers, it is our job to look it up and find the answer. And that is what I like about Mr. Jing Hao.
I will be honest that working in a group for this project is really challenging because we have to get everyone to be on the same page. And it does not work if we are just communicating on the phone. I had to get everyone to meet up and discuss because it was getting to point where everyone is not doing their part or just not understanding where we are now. So this project really made me increase my leadership skills and communication skills.

Project 2 : Contextual Architecture
This project requires us to find a building that is in Asia and that relates to its context. We have to study its form, how it relates to the neighborhood, how it considers the neighborhood building and ect.
The final outcome is produced in an A2 poster.
Building chosen: Inari House
Location: Japan

Reflection
This project was an individual project and I wanted to take a step further by studying a building that is not in Malaysia. I have always been a fond of Japanese architecture and I felt like this was the right time to increase more of my knowledge about it. I found Japanese architecture to be really simple and peaceful and I really like the idea of using wood as the main material, and so I found the perfect case study for my contextual architecture study, which is INARI HOUSE.
From all the readings and researching on this house, I was able to understand the meaning of contextual architecture. However, I did have some challenges such as lack of resources and there wasn't any books that I can refer to so I only relied on online sources. There was a point when I wanted to choose another building but there was just something about this building that made me want to know more. So I sticked to it and tried my best to get as much information as I can.
But then I also did my own analyze to how it relate to its contexts. The skills that I had learned from Project 1 had helped me do analyse diagrams and explanation for this project.
Overall this project was really fun because I was able to study one of the things that I have passion in which was Japanese architecture. I hope to learn more in the future even when I am not doing any projects!
