Architecture Design Studio 1 is an introduction to architectural design. This module aims to present and explain desgin through the expression of the perception of "self" and the body. So we have to undertake a series of studio based exercises and assignments that introduces fundamental method, principles, and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design.
Project 1.
For this first project, we were asked to pick a Pokemon character and unravel their creative and inner side. We have to study about their personalities, interests, attitudes, preferences, etc. These ideas will then translate into an artwork where we displayed in our studio, whether it be on the table or hanging on the ceiling. The requirements was that it cannot get out of our own studio space. So we had to work on what material will we be using and the techniques.
So I chose to work on a Pokemon character name Squirtel. Squirtel is a water pokemon. And one of its main feature is his shell. His shells defends, and protect himself from any harm. Whenever he is in danger, he would go inside and protect himself. Another one of his characteristic is that he is a vey loyal character. He is the most loyal person to his trainer, Ash. He is also

Models.
REFLECTION.
This project taught me alot of things. And having it being the first project made me feel that I had chances to improve myself for my future projects. This project taught me that when working with design elements and principles, I have to actually know what each means and do a whole lot of research on it before designing anything. I also learn that to translate our design to an artwork is not simply just about colors. Theres form and shape and other more that can contribute to it. I also learn that making models help me gain more ideas that can influence my design to be better. Making models is a step to making better models. So I cant just be sitting around drawing all day and trying to figure out what to do. I have to actually start making something and that will definitely lead me somewhere. Even if it didn't turn out how I want it to be, I can definitely make more models and get to where I think is the right one. So making models is a a very important step. I also learned that I have to think more architecture in terms of the techniques.

Project 2.
For the second project, we are required to get into groups of 3. And I worked with really good members: Nur Farahiyah and Nur Iman Jezdmeen. The task for this project is to create a 1:1 scale shelter that we will actually sleep in.
Location: ASHIDA VILLA, LOT 5303, PULAU SANTAP, JANDA BAIK 28750 BENTONG, PAHANG DARUL MAKMUR, MALAYSIA
Date: 15 oct- 16 oct
We had to be careful of axonometrics, the materials that we are going to use, how to make it stabilise and the design concept that we have. So our design concept is all about being CAREFREE and CONFIDENT. And we chose to make the shelter with CARBOARD TUBES. So we went around Subang Jaya and SS15 looking for the cardboard tubes. We use a SHOWER CURTAIN for the roof to protect us from the rain.
So basically in our shelter, you can do anything you want that relaxes you. It can fit about 3 people laying down but it can fit about 5 people in there when they sit cross leg. It is very spacious so that people are allowed to lay down however they want and use the space efficiently. Such as putting their bags or any other items. It is also a very stable and strong shelter due to its firm slots of putting tube into another tube. Below are the presentation boards and some pictures of our process.

FINAL OUTCOME.
REFLECTION.
For this project, I learned that working in the studio is very important especially when it comes to group work. This project made me realize how important it is to speed up our working progress and meeting our plans and goals. I am so thankful for having such great group members that made this project easy for me. Aside from sleeping at 5 am and going back to studio at 11 am the next day, everything was not making me stress or worried. The beginning of the project did made me worry a lot. When we were done finalizing our design, we had to start making the actual prototype. So we had to search for our materials. We went around Subang Jaya and SS15 printing shops, looking for cardboard tubes. It did not just take 1 day to look for the materials. It actually around 1-2 weeks to actually get the amount of tubes that are required for our shelter. We went almost every day on bus and taxis, with a bunch of tubes. I thought it was not such a big deal to carry a bunch of tubes but I was wrong because it was really heavy to carry. And we each carried like 10. But it was actually a really fun time where I bonded with my group mates. Making the prototype was not an easy task because we had to come up with a way where the tubes can assembled together and disassembled. Our tutor, Mr. Shen Fei, really helped us alot for this project and we could not have done it without him. He had helped us alot on how we could stablilize our base and how we could prevent our tubes from falling down. And I learned that working early is the solution to avoid last minute work. I learned that working early could help us learn all the mistakes and errors that could happen if we don't realize it early. It helped my group to be less stress because we started earlier than everyone else. It made us confident that we could actually accomplish this. We were able to identify the errors that we had to fix and the questions that we want to ask our tutors. I learned so many things about my teamates and I learned so many things about myself. I learned that I am good at organizing days where we can meet. I learned that I am willing to do anything and go anywhere to get the materials that I want. I learned that I can work only until 5 am until I get very sleepy. I learned that measuring things and cutting things is something that I am good at. There are many more things that I learn and I am really happy about it. So coming to studio every single day and staying up late at night was all worth it because we created a shelter that we are all proud of.

Final Project.
For this individual project, we were given a task to design a space between two buildings. So in the brief, the lecturers gave us the dimensions of our space and the requirements that we had to follow. We were given a space of 15 x 6 meter big and we cannot exceed 70 % of that space. And it also have to be attached to at least one of the other two buildings on the side. The first task was to write a narrative description about ourself. From there we would derive a theme that we want to focus on for our dream space.
My narrative is about homesick. I get homesick alot and that is all due to because I am far away from my family. But being homesick is a good thing because it makes me appreciate more of my family. It makes me treasure the moments and memories that I have with my family. So I decided to relive my memories and experience of how my family makes me feel. You can look at my presentation board for more detais. But basically, my theme is about the 3 stages of my life : child, teen and adult.

FINAL MODEL.
REFLECTION.
This project makes me realize the importance of tutorials, drawings and making models. Even though this project had about more than a month duration until the submission, we still had interim in between to get ourself ready for the real one. I learned that making the model itself is such a good start and good way to get more ideas to improve your design. I actually had a very hard time designing my space. I looked up stuff on pinterest and google and just couldn't get what I want. And so after all the research and drawings done, I knew that I had to actually start making the models and see where that takes me. And I was actually so proud that I made that step because it gave me so many possibilities and ideas. It led me one thing to another and improved my design a whole lot more. So i tried to make a lot of models as I can and show it to my tutor and see what I can improve from there. And other than models, drawing is as much important. Without drawings, the idea that you want to convey would not get to your tutors and it would hard for them to help you. And so producing a lot of drawings (to scale) of my design of the space made me go up to the next step on improving my design. Improving my drawings would improve my models. Making the models is not that hard but the challenging thing is time. I had to cut alot of tiny triangles and that took a lot of my time. It also injured my fingers a bit and made it numb because of the pressure that I put into my fingers. But it was all worth it for the final submission. So I made sure that I do all the physical work first and then rest my hand by drawing. It was really challenging because it was not a good feeling to have a numb hand. I did not force myself to work so whenever I felt like I could not do it anymore, I would just stop for a while and get my hand rested before I really ruin it and not being able to do anything. Another thing that I learn is that tutorials are very important. Tutorials with my tutor is a very precious time where I can ask as many questions that I have about my design. But of course I would have to have my drawings and model first. So that they can see our progress and the idea that we are trying to convey. I think that having tutorials is a good way to have our progress on track and so that we keep making models and drawings every single day. So that we stay right on track and not do any last minute work.
